Hemi Sync (March 2025)
Performed at Binghamton University in Spring of 2025.
Drawing inspiration from the research of Dr. Robert Monroe, and from declassified CIA documents on "The Gateway Project", this performance integrates binaural beats and Frequency-Follow-Response (FFR) phenomena as researched by Bob Monroe and appropriated by the CIA circa 1983.
Participants were encouraged to walk around a dark room, with 4 speakers set up in each corner. Two channels would play 2 separate tones, whose frequencies were phased a few Hz apart. This creates the illusion that the sound is "moving" between the ears, in a strong panning effect.
Audience members are exposed first to a frequency delta of 7Hz. inducing a “Alpha-Theta“ brainwave state, and throughout the course of the performance this delta approached 1 Hz.
More information on the gateway experiments can be found here.
